We have grown so used to being fed images from the Third World that we almost feel we already know what awaits us once we land on the African continent.

From these images that strike us defenceless at lunchtime, what does not come through is the joy, the hope, the simplicity of a reality that has its own dignity and its own balance, however different from ours.

Documenting the journey of CARA Africa’s volunteers was a real and profound experience. The relationship CARA Africa built over its many years on the ground gave me the chance to portray, in a solo exhibition, the reality of the village of Domè through the privileged point of view of a member integrated (as far as possible for a white man) into the community.
